Weymouth Town Walk.
2 hours approx | Around the Town

Starting at the Kings Statue on the Seafront, this walk encompasses much of Weymouth's town centre, the old harbour and historic buildings that could otherwise go un-noticed.

The walk describes Weymouth's popularity as a seaside resort and the association to King George III who regularly visited the town. The walk also takes you to where the Black Death was brought to England through to great views of Portland Harbour where the Olympic Sailing Event is taking place in 2012.

This walk is perfect for those getting their bearings and a feel for the town.

The Old Railway Line - Rodwell Trail.
2 miles | Radipole Lake to Chesil Beach

Since 1864 the Old Railway Line or 'The Rodwell Trail' was the Great Western rail link between London right through to Portland. Now the tracks have gone and the routes meanders through Weymouth, under old bridges and past stations and halts that were once filled with waiting passengers. It also passes the Sandsfoot Castle/Gardens and quiet beaches.

The trail now stretches just over 2 miles from Abbotsbury Road to Chesil Beach, it is fairly flat and is worthwhile for both walking and cycling. It can be walked in around and hour or cycled in 15 minutes. This route is a good option if your walking over to Portland, however if you're not one for long walks the No. 1 bus can be met at Ferrybridge going back into Town.

Free Rodwell Trail leaflets and quizes can be obtained from the Tourist Information Centre but I will also try to scan one in.

Julia Bradburys Railway Walk.
6 miles approx | Weymouth to Church Ope Cove, Portland

Featured on the BBC program Railway Walks this walk must be something special. An extension of the Rodwell Trail, breaks away from bustling Weymouth over to Portland following the path old trains and carts would have once took, hauling limestone off to the world over.

"The leaflet provides a brief description of the route and main features of interest. The whole lengh is very rich in heritage, geology and wildlife and is just a flavour if what can be seen on the way"
